Hi Julie,
Just an update on Percy (Percival). He had no reactions from his shot and did very well at the vet’s. He is now sleeping back downstairs in his large wire crate instead of in the small crate by our bed. I’m going to experiment with letting him sleep in our bed tonight since he pretty much consistently “holds it” through the night and I wake up before he does (and he is much cleaner with his short hair). Last week, he graduated to the outdoor kennel during the day with our lab and loves it. Every chance he gets, he runs to the outdoor kennel and paws to get in. They are quite the pair.
I broke down and had his hair cut for the first time today. Between the outdoor kennel and the walks around the lakes, his long puppy coat was trapping too much dirt. I guess we don’t have a good lifestyle for keeping a Lhasa in a longer coat as I had planned. Here are some pics I took today when I got him home from the groomer. My groomer said he did pretty well (but just didn’t want to stand up on the table). I think he looks pretty darn cute and he’ll be much easier to keep clean this way.
He’s on the Wellness food now, but on this food his poops are a lot bigger and are the texture and color of peanut butter. I’m going to get through the bag and see if it changes. If not, I’ll experiment with something else.
He is so friendly and outgoing and seems to especially like kids. Honestly, when he sees kids, he just lights up like a Christmas tree and wants to run into the midst of them, even with all the poking and grabbing that kids do. He just loves all people and loves to be held (total opposite of our last Lhasa but a very welcome change) – and everybody loves him back. His favorite toy is a big, stuffed, pink pig that is as big as he is. He carries it around the house and sleeps with it at night. Actually, the pig probably comes second to our cat, “Chubby” – Chubby is definitely his favorite play thing.
I guess that’s about it for now.

Hi Debby,
I loved the video of the spontaneous dance fest in the Denmark trainstation! Made me laugh and brought tears of joy!
If you haven’t already seen this video of the reunion between these two young men, who, in 1969 rescued a lion cub from Harrod’s Dept Store, raised him for a year, then contacted George Adamson of Born Free fame, and with his help, returned this zoo-born cub back to the wild. The first video is the short version on CNN and The View (there’s another one with an interview with the two gentlemen today, who are re-releasing video and a book, but I couldn’t find it), and the second is the longer version (rest of the story) from the Born Free foundation. This is true “animal communication”, and shows without doubt that animals are certainly capable of sentient actions and feelings. We knew that, already, of course.
Best to you!
Katy
Debby,
This is the video I was looking for initially. It has a recent interview with the two gentlemen (now in their late 50’s or so, around our age, I would guess, or slightly older).

Yesterday Stella went to her new home. It was delightful meeting Nancy! This won’t be the last time. We made plans to visit the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in the future. Nancy lives at the base of the Snowy Range Mountains in Wyoming. She’s an avid quilter, works in a quilt store and teaches quilt classes. Her sister is an art quilt judge. Stella will be joining Murphy, another Lhasa Apso, and Katy, a smooth-haired miniature dachshund. Nancy prepares home-made food for Murphy due to allergies. She prefers red wine. Doesn’t she sound like ‘one of us’?!

Here’s Murphy…

I liked the way Nancy let Stella’s natural curiosity lead their introduction. Stella was in a pen when Nancy arrived at the shop. I took Stella out of the pen, handed her to Nancy and they cuddled a bit. Shortly after we headed across the street to One World Cafe for lunch. Back at the shop, Stella roamed free while we continued to talk, talk, talk. I could tell Nancy was aware of what Stella was doing, but allowed her to explore. Stella loved the broom! When Stella showed interest in Nancy, Nancy would make playful overtures. Nancy responded to Stella interest; she didn’t ‘push’ herself on Stella. After some time passed…perhaps an hour or so…Stella seemed very comfortable with Nancy…almost flirting with her. I don’t know if Nancy was intentionally waiting for Stella to exhibit this level of comfort or if it’s just the way things worked out. It sure seemed like a nice transition from my hands to hers.
decide. As we talked, rather than overwhelming the puppy, she allowed Stella’s curiosity
