Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! is an hour-long weekly radio news quiz game show produced by Chicago Public Radio and National Public Radio.
Here’s my version. Dog! Show! Wait! Wait! Don’t tell me! Leave your answers (or questions) to both shows as a comment. The question is how many points were awarded to Winners Dog and Winners Bitch at each show?

Geez Debbie, now I’m really confused. Just when I think I”m getting it I found out from Ginny the points awarded Chloe on Sunday. Way to go FFT and Cayenne puppies.
I know, I know! 6 dog=3pts therefore Winners Dogs was awarded 3points, 3 bitches=1point, therefore Winners Bitch was awarded 1pt. Now the tricky part, Best of Winners receives the most points awarded that day of the 2 sexes, Winners Dogs received 3pts. so Best of Winner Receives 3pt also no matter which sex won the title. Ruby and Chloe each received 3 points!!!

Julie is right, as far as she took it. She did make my main point. Best of Winners (BW) is the key both days to the points awarded to the Winners Bitch (WB). BW can pick up more points if the Winner s/he beats was awarded more points. Both days a 3-pt. major was awarded to the Winners Dog. Both days the WB placed BW, meaning she beat the WD. She, too, picks up a 3 pt. major, replacing the single point she was awarded for WB.
Sunday’s scenario is fairly typical. HOWEVER, SATRUDAY’S SCENARIO IS UNUSUAL. Julie, take another look. Do you want to change your answer?
Doesn’t Ruby pick up an extra point for going breed as well?
Three class bitches were shown, so WB was awarded 1 pt. By virtue of beating 2 specials for BB, the total # of ‘bitches’ beaten goes up to 5 – 2 pts. I enclose ‘bitches’ in quotes because the number of specials beaten for BB, no matter the sex, is tossed into the point system for bitches. 2 specials plus 3 class bitches = 2 points. However, that’s not where Ruby’s points came from that day. As I mentioned earlier, the key is BW. How many points did Ruby and Ethan win Saturday?
OK-Change! wasn’t looking at Ethan’s BOS win!! Ethan beat 1 male special, add that dog to the 6 class dogs, making a total of 7 male dogs defeated=4points!!!
But adding specials in to the class dogs can be very confusing, even for someone who has been doing it for 25 years. But for all you novices (under 20 years of experience) try and remember that BEST OF WINNERS is exactly that! and receives the points from which ever sex had the most to offer. Did that make sense?

If this was NPR’s Wait! Wait! Don’t Tell Me! Julie would win Carl Kasell’s voice for her outgoing voice mail message. Described as an all-round genius and great guy, he’s the Official Judge and Scorekeeper on the quiz show and newscaster for NPR’s daily newsmagazine Morning Edition.
Yes, points can be confusing when adding in specials beaten, which is one reason I thought the Pueblo weekend’s results provided a great educational opportunity, especially since there was a major entry in dogs. Let’s go through both shows, starting with Sunday.
Sunday’s results are fairly typical. 3-pt. major entry in dogs. 1 pt entry in bitches. Two male specials. A special wins BB. The major holds in dogs. WB goes BW and BOS (by default – there are no bitch specials). The judge awards BB first. The sex of the Breed winner determines which sex will be BOS. The judge selects the best breed representative ‘of the opposite sex’. At the same time, the judge also selects Best of Winners, judging Winners Dog against Winners Bitch. When the judge is finished with Breed judging there will be up to 3 dogs standing awaiting ribbons. In order…Best of Breed, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex. There are occasions when 2 dogs are standing because BW is also BB or BOS, as was the case both days in Pueblo. Chloe was awarded BW and BOS. She won BOS by ‘default’ because there were no bitch specials entered Sunday. By going BW, as Julie points out, she picked up a major too.
Saturday’s results are very unusual because both Winners Bitch and Winners Dog beat specials. The specials entry consisted of a dog and a bitch. Ethan went Winners Dog for a 3-pt. major. Then he was awarded BOS over the male special which bumped his major up to 4-pts. This is because the male special is counted in the point system, moving the number of males beaten from 6 to 7. In Colorado 7 (male) dogs is 4-pts. Ruby was awarded BB and BW. It was her BW win that earned her a 4-pt. major too. As BW, she earns the same number of points awarded to the WD.
I discovered Chloe’s BW win doing some ‘paperwork’ online and got really excited…several weeks after the fact. The Cayenne/Seth kids just about swept up in Pueblo. 3 out of 4 Winners; 2 Best of Winners. Two of them came home with their second major. Ruby started her quest for points in grand style winning BB and a 4-pt. major. As Julie mentioned in the blog entry about that weekend, it’s awesome to see the FFT dogs succeed without either of us present!!! It is testimony to the lineage. It is testimony to the time and effort put into these dogs by others. It is testimony to the quality of dogs themselves. It is testimony to Ginny’s loving efforts with her CayPepper puppies.
