Layout…compliments of Vickie

It will be interesting to see if a Lhasa Apso on the cover of Dog Fancy and this beautiful ad within (done by our Vickie!) will generate more interest in our beloved breed.

The Lhasa Apso Club of Central Colorado met Sunday after brunch at Mount Vernon. We set up the upcoming year’s meeting dates and had all intent and purpose to set up some doggie get-togethers for ‘regular’ folks, perhaps using meetup.com. With husbands chomping at the bit, we rushed through instead. The next meeting will be held after Lhasa Apso judging in Ginny’s grooming area. Better put those doggie get-togethers on the agenda. Could be some creative meetups, given we’ve planned a Wine and Cheese Party for that particular meeting.

P.S. My server is still having some issues with the hardware utilized by my websites:

Well Gandalf is kind of up.  We have ordered the new server, finally. Should arrive Feb 2.  In the mean time we are going to try and get things fixed up or moved to a different server.  The main issue will be the SGOL site.  I am going to try some things tomorrow so expect some down time off and on.  We lost the primary drive and I reconstructed from the last image backup a week plus ago, prior to the upgrade.  I know this has been as much a pain as it has been for us.

Dog Fancy Magazine

Got this from Rose:
Was in the pet food store today picking up provisions and saw what i thought was a lhasa on a magazine cover. Since i didn’t have my glasse on, i picked it up to confirm it was a lhasa and not a ShitZu as they usually are.  Well, Dog Fancy had a feature article on Lhasa’ for the Feb issue so i sprung for the $5 bucks!.  Was thrilled to see them feature the Lhasa, i know their popularity has been slacking off.  As I recently told Ginny, I’d rather own something rare!!!  In case you didn’t see it, the last paragraph say it all:  “Once you have a Lhasa, you’ll never want anything else.  They’ll spoil you because they are so intelligent.  They really understand you.  They get inside your head and your heart.”  I think that says it all.

No sheep?

Thanks Vickie! Years ago I had four Apsos herding instinct tested. Danielle passed with flying colors, controlling even the seasoned sheep with her ‘eye’. Maybe I should pick up a smaller version of these sheep and give the current lot a try?!

More Canine Artists

Yvonne Sovereign, Sanford, North Carolina, in her bio for Dogs In Review wrote: I was born into art. My mother and father met in art school and my father had a career in graphic art, painting on the side. As my mentor he stressed proper structure and perspective. He helped me with my first oil painting of a deer when I was only 7. When I was 8 years old my grandfather gave me a stack of paper and I drew Greyhounds from an article about racing Greyhounds in one of his sporting magazines. How I loved their beauty! In high school I majored in art, learning to paint on canvas in acrylics, then attended a summer program for the gifted and classes at the Corcoran School of Art. I then majored in art for two years at Virginia Commonwealth University. I still take painting workshops periodically. I have always had a love for dogs and I decided to concentrate on canine art in the mid-1970s when I went to the Old Dominion dog show in Virginia and spotted a display there of an artist whose work I still admire, Margarite Val de Tara King. She had amazing graphite drawings of dogs and large oil painting of the Whippet, Ch. Sporting Field’s Clansman. I was inspired by that painting and knew then that I would focus my artwork on dogs.

The Clock

Marie – my sister Kelly’s mother-in-law and more importantly Anna’s Forever Home – shared this with me. I love the message and, in particular, I love this image.

The post was titled The Clock because of this ticking clock, along with a message to pass it on, you’re on the clock. I’m including the clock because I want to see if the image moves on the blog. Ah, that’s me! Always checking things out! Whoops, never mind. I’m having trouble saving the image in a format wordpress will accept. Instead….imagine a ticking clock here.

I’ve edited the introduction for the heathens (within and without).

In life you don’t get the people you want; you get the people you NEED… to help you, to hurt you, to leave you, to love you and to make you into the person you were meant to be..

One Flaw In Women

Women have strengths that amaze men…..

They bear hardships and they carry burdens,

but they hold happiness, love and joy..

They smile when they want to scream.

They sing when they want to cry.

They cry when they are happy

and laugh when they are nervous.

They fight for what they believe in..

They stand up to injustice.

They don’t take “no” for an answer

when they believe there is a better solution.

They go without so their family can have..

They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.

They love unconditionally.

They cry when their children excel

and cheer when their friends get awards.

They are happy when they hear about

a birth or a wedding.

Their hearts break when a friend dies.

They grieve at the loss of a family member,

yet they are strong when they

think there is no strength left.

They know that a hug and a kiss

can heal a broken heart.

Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.

They’ll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you

to show how much they care about you.

The heart of a woman is what

makes the world keep turning.

They bring joy, hope and love.

They have compassion and ideas.

They give moral support to their

family and friends.

Women have vital things to say

and everything to give.

However, if there is one flaw in women,

It is that they forget their worth.
