Mountain dogs

Toshimi sent these photos along with the following note:

Thank you Debby.
I want to see Koyuki’s aunt too!
Here is the photo at Baldy mountain not Himalaya.
But, the  Summit elevation is 13,684 feet.
My apsos enjoyed the mountain.

The photo belows reminds me of her grandmother, Victoria. Victoria has spent most of her life with Julie and Kaylee, but for a little while she lived here with me. Before Nate could drive, it was my responsibility to get him to early morning swim practice in the summer. 6:30 AM to be exact! Six days a week! I don’t miss those days! Our house is about 20 minutes from Evergreen, so workdays I went for a hike before work, rather than spend another 40 minutes on the road. Victoria was, by far, the best hiker of any of my dogs. She would be out in front of me blazing the trail. It didn’t matter if the hike was 3 miles long, she hiked with enthusiasm. Seems like her granddaughter Koyuki does too.

Sweet Pete’s Tibetan Mandala

Tibetan Symbolism of the Crewelwork
The red cord dangle is for Good Luck.  It swings freely like prayers
carried on the wind to God/Buddha.

The circle of green calls for wholeness, balance, and harmony.  The
color is always associated with a young, mischievous, playful nature.

Red is the color of passion and discriminating wisdom.  It is the
color of powerful rituals and deeds.

Dante Do

A rescue friend penned this poem for Dante after seeing his “hairdo” photo and a yard sign I snagged off eBay.

Dante Do, Dante Don’t

Dante can but Dante won’t

Not a chicken not a goose

Not a horse and not a moose

Not an ordinary pooch …

It’s a Lhasa Apso running loose!

As Debby mentioned previously, Dante and I had the good fortune to take back-to-back Best of Breed wins in Eagle, Colorado in mid July.  Given the challenges presented by Dante (a/k/a “DemonChild”) — including being excused from the ring because “somebody” was throwing a royal hissy fit on the table and having to pull him out of competition for 5 months — the wins were that much sweeter.  Having friends there to share in our moment was apsolutely icing on the cake!

As a newcomer to the show scene (2 years), the experience has deepened my appreciation for the qualities and characteristics that make an Apso “an Apso” and the dedication of the breeders who have preserved this ancient land race.  But for them, this unique breed would have vanished into the mists of the Himalayans decades upon decades past.  How bereft our lives would be without our beloved Apsos … and the friends who share our passion.

Sadie had her puppies!

The Sadie x Damon puppies were born late August 7; 3 males and 2 females, all dark gold. Total whelping time was 2 1/2 hours! All puppies weigh about 7 ounces. Sadie, sweet Sadie, the sweetest Apso, is the face you see in the banner for What’s New. Her registered name is Ch. FFT All Said and Done. Damon, of course, is Ch. FFT Dancin’ After Midnight.
