Debby on…Hip Hip Hooray!
Posted: September 20, 2007 Filed under: DRambles on Black Mountain 10 CommentsI’m stoked because a problem I’ve been working on, off and on for months, has been resolved. I figured it out! Yippee!! The blog is now seamlessly, elegantly, integrated into the FFT website. Note the links across the top of What’s New…that is, if you’re viewing the blog through the website. Doesn’t look like much to be excited about. The links are on nearly every page, right? Nope, not until today. I’ve been trying to get the navigation bar seen at the top of most pages within the website integrated into the blog (which is hosted by a different server). Finally! I succeeded!
Before I celebrate for days upon days 🙂 I will need your feedback. If you come across any broken links, please let me know. If you’ve been viewing the blog through wordpress.com, rather than through a link on the FFT website, please consider doing it now through the website. It will make navigation much easier, should you want to go to another area.
Hip Hip Hooray!
Now…on to figuring out how all posters can have an avatar. The photo of me you see, in the left hand column, whenever I comment on a post is my avatar. It would be fun to have one for all contributors, rather than that gray and white silhouette.
Dang … I’m not getting any links across the top of the “What’s New” page (despite accessing it from the FFT site)!
Got it … I had to refresh the FFT site, not just the What’s New. Nevermind!
I tested the site on Rick’s computer (since I’m sure there’s stuff stored in places I’m not even aware of on mine..as creator of the website and administrator of the blog) prior to ‘going live’. It appeared to be loading, but very, very slowly. One hit on the refresh button and there it was. If anyone else is having problems, try the refresh button. That action will tell your computer to update changes…at least I think that’s how it works.
Debby, I get the infor across the top each time I go into your fleetfiretimbers.com So I guess everything is okay on my end.

If anyone is having trouble with the new FFT site setup, simply go to (IE) Tools, and Delete Browsing History. Computers are lazy and will pick the old page off the history rather than the new one from the server. Hope that helps.
The site loads fast and the What’s New comes up from the top link just fine.

I think I figured the avatar thing out.
Looks like you have to have an account at wordpress and have an avatar linked to your user name. You can set up a wordpress account for free and have it set as an accoun tonly or set up for your own blog also.
The only thing I don’t know is if you have to blog from the wordpress site or if you can blog from Debby’s site
Now to go home and see if I can make it work
Faye, if you and I can experiment/troubleshot this together, that would be great! This particular comment is part of the test. I’ve always been logged in as administrator when working on the blog. Right now, I’m not. And haven’t been in at least 24 hours. We’ll see if my avatar comes up.
testing
okay the avatar works in the test forums in wordpress. apparently there mya be a delay for it to show up here – so we will wait and see.

Faye, my avatar shows up, no matter if I’m logged in as administrator or simply viewing through the website. It shows up right away. I’m writing this particular comment on Rick’s computer as a test. I don’t think it will affect my avatar. Let’s see.
