Amazing…

I don’t pretend to like our national anthem, but this is amazing! Five young ladies opened a Texas Tech University Basketball game singing in harmony. The two young ladies on the right are six years old. The two in the middle are seven and the one on the left is eight.

Oh, how I’d like to hear them sing America The Beautiful…

New Finding…

Faye sent this interesting article…

New Finding Puts Origins of Dogs in Middle East.

A few years ago the Gompa dogs participated in a similar study done by Peter Savolainen of the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He makes some interesting observations regarding the above, if you read further into the article.

As I was reading this article, I recalled – vaguely (which is usual these days) – a similar mitochondrial DNA study done with humans. Those researchers made a great case for the origin of three ‘ Eves’. Africa. Middle East. Himalayas. It makes sense to me that domesticated dog would follow a similar path…scoundrels and users of mankind that they are! 🙂

Melissa took this photo of Nagpo. It’s one of my favorites. It captures her ‘ancientness’.

Kathy wonders if we’ve ‘Got the Green Gene’…

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!

Training resources

Susan has been delving back into training techniques. As she’s re-researching what fits best with her dogs and the pack’s lifestyle, I suggested she check out Patricia McConnell’s DVD Both Ends of The Leash. This was filmed during a two-day seminar. Pat McConnell is a first-rate behaviorist. Like my Ana, she appears to be great with both species – the canine and human. She takes advantage of a dog’s sense of space, clearly demonstrating this on the DVD. Learning from her (and Ana) I have tweaked – perhaps that should be torqued! – some of my handling techniques.

In her quest Susan  came upon an excellent digital resource, Ian Dunbar’s Dog Star Daily.

Do yourself and your dog/s a favor. Spend some time at either site.

This is cool!
