Manners Minder

Recently I was able to get my hands on a copy of Low Stress Handling, Restraint and Behavior Modification of Dogs & Cats: Techniques for Developing Patients Who Love Their Visits.

It’s a text book designed for veterinarians and vet techs with excellent illustrations on handling techniques, incorporating operant conditioning principles. It’s now on my want list for my library. Unfortunately the DVD was missing. Dr. Yin also illustrates canine body language and how humans can better understand what the dog is ‘saying’.

One of the things mentioned in her book was the Manners Minder.

Here’s what The Pet Online has to say about the product:

Remote Reward Dog Training System is an incredibly useful dog training aid for all dog owners with innovative and unique design. This new remote dog training aid lets you control your pets behavior using obedience commands issued by a hand-held remote. MannersMinder Remote Reward Dog Training System reward your dogs good behavior instantly byremote control, and it automatically feeds a treat every few minutes while you are gone. You can always combine your dogs favorite treats with this remote reward training system. The MannersMinder System includes: Hand-held remote that can operate on 4 separate channels, and which allows you to work from a distance of up to 100 ft and even through walls. Target training wand with detachable base to teach tricks, heeling, and jumping. Two treat dispenser disks for different sized kibble or treats of uniform small sizes. Dr. Yins illustrated training manual and DVD. Rugged, dog-proof housing measures 16 x 7 x 8 inches; it weighs 3.5 lbs. and is remarkably stable. A standard outlet with the included AC adapter; alternatively, it will run for about four months on 4 D batteries. The remote control runs on an included 23A-12V battery. How MannersMinder Remote Reward Training System Works: Manners Minder replaces the pets old bowl, holding and dispensing your dogs kibble. Food can be dispensed by remote control or automatically in programmed intervals .

Dr. Yin had several photos showing the Manners Minder attached to a dog crate, with a treat being dispensed on intervals while the owner was gone. Great way to keep a dog entertained when the owner is gone!

This group did the photo shoot for the Loveland Classic on Sunday, of which Alan rode 62 miles.  I like their use of light and color!

Family Fun Time!

Okay, so I’ve mentioned The FlyLady before… For over a week I’ve been sharing the Daily Flight Plan with Vickie and Athena. Vickie shared this after receiving Saturday’s Flight Plan.

Saturday at FlyLady is especially fun because it’s the day we have Family Fun Time! This a special time just for you and your loved ones to spend time renewing your relationships with each other.

Did just that!!  We went canoeing on a local lake with my niece, her husband, and the 11-year old grandnephew in prep for the June river trip.  Dante had his first boat ride and, as expected, took it all in stride …
