:Just Another Weekend update
Posted: July 21, 2008 Filed under: Apso Aficionados Leave a commentWhew! Did any of you see where the weekend went?! If so, please retrieve it and send it back! There were more things I wanted to do. This is payback time of the year , payback for enduring a long winter and mud season rather than a spring. The weather has been gorgeous. One can ‘while away the hours. Creating Slide Shows. Reading. Watching Fried Green Tomatoes for the upteenth time.

Now here it is Monday morning! As good a time as any to start to practice the 5th yogic principle. Aparigraha. Not grasping. Greedlessness. You can’t be grateful and greedy at the same time. I’ll give it a try. Be grateful for time. Be grateful for time. Repeat one million times until it feels like there’s plenty of time.
Over the weekend Shelley’s Iris picked up her second major, along with a Best of Breed win. Congrats! The following day Fernando was Best of Breed and placed 4th in the group.
I’ve updated the Center Stage page with what dogs are currently available for forever homes, including several slide shows. Still more work to do on that, as we’ve decided to place Manny and Rosie.
Kathy, I love the kata. The poem. And all your ideas. Lunch soon! :::sigh::: Later, rather than sooner.
Susan, please take a photo of the chimes for me.
Faye, congrats on Sonam! He’ll be a Canadian Champion before you know it! I’m looking so forward to seeing you in September.
Kelly, don’t tell Lori, but I’m going to share the photos of her and Tamdin on her porch. Glad you conned her into sitting still!
Had a great lunch with Tammy Friday. along with picking up Jill. Blowing Puppy Coat Jill. Did her out Saturday morning. Took me about 1/2 hour. Years ago, while learning to hand strip a Dandie Dinmont Terrier, the breeder asked me why I was making it hard on myself. I need to figure out how to teach others because it seems to me a fair number of people are making Apso coat care far more difficult than it needs.
Got great photos of Tammy and Matthew in the show ring with Wyatt and Thateus. And Tammy with Andrea’s beautiful Tibetan Terrier. Will share soon.
Named Chandra and Keeper’s puppies… This litter is From The Past. Nagpo and Keeper’s puppies are To The Past. Chandra means moon. Ken had previously suggested Skyon Pa Po, which I saved for a Chandra and Keeper puppy. His call name is Sky. So, I combined sky and moon for a theme and came up with these names:
Kunza Akasa From The Past (female) – Akasa means ether.
Kunza Nara From The Past – Nara means air.
Kunza Skarma From The Past – Skarma means star.
Kunza Skyon From The Past – Skyon means guardian.
And now I’d better get to work. Rick and I have a date tonight with The Police. See you there Ginny!

Tuesday was Spa Day for Chandra and her mother Garma. Puppies – four weeks old the previous day – rode along too. A couple of weeks ago Chandra allowed Garma to help her raise the puppies. Now that’s a smart arrangement!
Nagpo’s Keeper puppies were ‘to the past’…Whisper, Echo and Keeper (call name SiKu). DNA profiling will verify, but I’m certain Chandra’s puppies are sired by Keeper because of the gold sable coloration on all four. Based on that, this litter will be ‘from the past’. The male I choose to stay with me will be named Skyob Pa Po from the Past, call name Sky. Ken suggested that name previously. Skyob Pa Po means guardian. Bobbie put together a wonderful list of Tibetan names, took the list to the Farmer’s Market in Bergen Park and had a young Tibetan woman double check the spellings and meanings. From that list I will be selecting names from the ether. (ether – n 1: the fifth and highest element after air and earth and fire and water; was believed to be the substance composing all heavenly bodies). Chandra means the moon (mind and mother). So, you can see the connection.

Posted: July 15, 2008 Filed under: Apso Aficionados Leave a commentThis is a noteworthy post on Vickie’s ApsoRescueColorado blog …

Folks, rescue desperately needs some help. We’re being inundated with calls to take in owner-surrendered Apsos and strays. Unfortunately, we only have two foster homes in Colorado … myself and my rescue partner. We simply do not have the space to intake any more at this time. If you’ve adopted from us in the past, you are already approved as a foster home!!
Please consider sharing a bit of your home and heart with a little one that desperately needs a second chance. If interested, please read “Brother, Can You Spare” and then contact ApsoRescue@aol.com with any questions regarding our policies/procedures, what fostering entails, and how you can help.
Alone and Afraid
There I sat, alone and afraid,
You got a call and came right to my aid.
You bundled me up with blankets and love.
And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.
I learned that the world was not all that scary and cold.
That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold.
You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend.
You loved me and healed me and became my first friend.
And just when I thought you’d done all you do,
There came along not one new lesson, but two.
First you said, “Sweetheart, you’re ready to go.
I’ve done all I can, and you’ve learned all I know.”
Then you bundled me up with a blanket and kiss.
Along came a new family, they even have kids!
They took me to their home, forever to stay.
At first I thought you sent me away.
Then that second lesson became perfectly clear.
No matter how far, you will always be near.
And so, Foster Mom, you know I’ve moved on.
I have a new home, with toys and a lawn.
But I’ll never forget what I learned that first day.
You never really give your fosters away.
You gave me these thoughts to remember you by.
We may never meet again, and now I know why.
You’ll remember I lived with you for a time.
I may not be yours … but you’ll always be mine.
:Mountain Gorillas
Posted: July 14, 2008 Filed under: DRambles on Black Mountain 1 CommentI love gorillas. I cannot look at them in the zoos because they haunt me. I hate when other people tease them, trying to get a rise out of them as if they are cute little spider monkeys apparently happy to entertain the crowds. A while back, in the Morris Animal Foundation newsletter, I came upon the following, scheduled to start today.

Excerpted from Morris Animal Foundation’s animalnews…
Visit the mountain gorillas of Africa
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
July web cast brings the experience home
For decades, poaching, war and political instability have threatened the highly endangered mountain gorillas of Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Cong. In February, these three African nations agreed for the first time to cooperate on a new 10-year plan to save these primates. Still, these magnificent animals face an uphill battle for survival – one that Morris Animal Foundation has been helping them fight for more than 20 years through its funding of the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project (MGVP). The MGVP provides in-field veterinary care, which along with other conservation efforts has helped to increase the population to about 720 gorillas.
We’ll give you an inside look into the lives of these amazing creatures as MAF COO John Taylor heads to the Virunga Mountains of Africa to see the project firsthand. Through a special Web feature, you can read articles, look at photos and watch video footage of the mountain gorillas. We’ll also host a Web cast where John and MGVP Director Mike Cranfield talk about their trip. Visit www.MorrisAnimalFoundation.org for details.
