Debby asks you to vote
Posted: February 4, 2009 Filed under: Apso Aficionados 3 CommentsThis post is dry, no pretty graphics. This is serious stuff. Please read the entire post. The animal rights people continue to pound away. Several weeks ago I drafted a post regarding an article on the Los Angeles Times blog, titled LA Unleashed. Not breaking news to dog show people, PETA wants airing of the Westminster Kennel Club dog show canceled. You can express your opinion by voting. So far the nays – dog breeders promote responsible pet ownership and dog shows are fun to watch – far outweigh the yahs. 97%.
And hitting right here in Colorado:
From Marie Zimmerman:
I heard at BSKD last night that PETA is expected to show up big time at the Cluster. Could be an idle threat or not.
What they told us at BSKD:
1) It is illegal in Denver County (where the show is) to leave a dog in a car for any period of time unattended. I KNOW people have done so in the past. PETA is threatening to break windows to free dogs this year. Who knows whether they will or will not.
2)Don’t have a tag with your dog’s name on his/her crate, they open it and say, here Yankee, come with me.
3) They are cutting locks off crates. The message is don’t leave your dog unattended period.
4) Have your dog’s rabies tag or papers with you.
This is just what they told us. They said expect to be harassed and do not leave your dog unattended in a crate in either the grooming area or in your car.
Cindy was applying for a variance in Weld County so she could have 8 dogs on her 20 acres. 200 of the PETA people showed up at the hearing and she was denied last week.
Just information for you to consider.
Did you read that?! Weld County is an agricultural county. The population is growing because of urban sprawl, but it’s an agricultural county. 200 PETA people showed up at a variance hearing! Denied a variance for 8 dogs on 20 acres?

Monte
Posted: February 2, 2009 Filed under: Apso Aficionados Leave a commentSaturday night, coming home from dinner at the Kitchen Upstairs in Boulder, we drove by Golden. One of my all-time favorite dogs lived most of his life in Golden. Toby was a handsome brown Tibetan Terrier. I groomed him every two weeks. He grew to be old, but not old enough. Thinking of him I got teary-eyed. It was dark, so I was surprised when Rick asked me why. I wondered how he knew. He said tears glisten in the dark! I may have done a post about Toby and yarn… I have a heart-shaped bookmark made from Toby’s hair.
Soon I get to meet Monte. Here’s what Linda shared:

Debby on…Indy
Posted: February 1, 2009 Filed under: Apso Aficionados 3 CommentsI just had to share this painting of Indy. He’s a Bernadoodle (not going to step up on my soapbox…not going to step up on my soapbox). He lives ‘down the hill’ and makes the trek to Evergreen every 8 weeks. This is a watercolor, done by his owner.
