NM calling…
Posted: October 9, 2011 Filed under: Apso Aficionados, FFT Lhasa Apsos 1 CommentToday kicks off National Specialty week in Albuquerque. Agile Apsos. Fine friends. My own plans represent the transition I’ve previously blogged about.
There will be plenty of beautiful Lhasa Apsos, three different Specialties being judged, along with the premier of the Top Twenty competition. Stevie – Grand Champion FFT Take The Money and Run – will be the FFT representative in the conformation ring. Kaylee is flying in to show Stevie Monday and Tuesday. A video of award winning Lhasa Apsos for 2010 will be shown during the banquet, a fair number will be FFT dogs – from Champions to Register of Merits to one performance title.
Agile Apsos. Fine friends. My car is packed with jumps, weave poles, beer and wine. No tack box. No grooming equipment. I’m taking my agility dog, Ch. FFT Carpe Diem RN CGC. Julie will be there with her agility dogs – BIS BISS Ch. FFT Fernando and Ch. Timbers’ Confidentially Yours. For nearly two years we’ve been working towards this opportunity to exhibit in agility at the National. Edie, Fernando and Lily all have earned at least one Q (qualifying score) towards an agility title. Melissa will be there with Super Star Josie, her daughter Myth, Ella and Suds. I cannot wait to see all the Agile Apsos run!
A couple three weeks ago Kathy sent the following. I saved it for this blog entry…NM calling!

- 1 can (4 oz) diced green chiles
- 3 1/2 lb bone-in pork shoulder roast, well trimmed
- 1 medium red onion, sliced
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Recipe Preparation
- Mix enchilada sauce and chiles in a 4-qt or larger slow-cooker. Add pork; spoon sauce over top. Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours until pork is very tender.
- At least 20 minutes before serving, toss onion slices with lime juice in a medium bowl. Let stand, tossing once or twice until slightly wilted.
- Remove pork to a cutting board. Stir cilantro into mixture in slow-cooker. Break pork into bite-size chunks with a wooden spoon and return to cooker; stir to combine.
- Serve with warm flour or corn tortillas, smothered with the onion slices and grated sharp cheddar cheese.
The Dogs of Mustang…
Posted: July 17, 2011 Filed under: Apso Aficionados, Art and Photography 6 Comments..brought to you by Michelle Page and her Danger Dog Blog. Her blog and Nepal Art Dog project transport me to another world, figuratively. I could only hope for literally! Going to Mustang has long been a dream of mine. What would it be like to see this in person!
Here’s what Michelle wrote about this dog: This little Lhasa Apso is named Tashi and lives in the town of Eklaibhatti in Mustang. With his hair pulled back to counter the raging Kali Gandaki winds, he can see across the plains. See more Dogs of Mustang, compliments of Michelle.
The motto for the Nepal Art Dogs, Folk Art from the Himalayas, is ‘Micro-finance through art patronage!’ There is a tradition in Nepal of ‘beware of dog’ signs. Approximately one foot square, the signs are hand-painted on recycled metal and can be hung indoors or out. According to Michelle, on her most recent trip to Nepal, the Danger Dog commissions were the only art these artists were still hand painting. Their other work is mass-produced, digital or printed on flex.
You can commission a sign through NepalDog.com. Each commission is given to at least 3 signboard artists – giving 3 people work, the pet owner a choice and museum shops Nepali folk art. No money is accepted up front. If you don’t like any of the 3 choices, you pay nothing.

Q, QQ and cue it up!
Posted: April 24, 2011 Filed under: Apso Aficionados, Lotsa Lhasa Info | Tags: Julie Timbers 2 CommentsAwesome day yesterday for the MN agility ladies, canine and otherwise! Experienced to beginners, awesome day ladies! The Twin Cities Lhasa Apso Club is holding its first agility trial this weekend. What an appropriate place for Melissa’s Josie to earn her MACH2 and Julie’s Lily to qualify – Q – first run of their career! Congrats BIG TIME ladies! Canine and otherwise!
I admit envy. 🙂 Edie and I were to make our agility debut this coming weekend. Not gonna happen. She’s in heat. 😦 Instead I’ll be helping at the trial wherever needed.
Q. QQ. That’s pronounced double Q. Josie ran her 40th QQ yesterday. MACH stands for Master Agility Champion. The title requires 20 QQs and 750 points. Points are determined by how many seconds under the standard course time the dog finishes. Josie has now accomplished this incredible feat twice, earning the title MACH2.
Q. QQ. Cue it up. This website will be undergoing a spring makeover starting today. A fresh look. Clean. Crisp. Easier to read. Easier to navigate. A skilled webmaster can probably do this behind the scenes, wave a wand and voila! Instead, you may see changes right before your very eyes as I cue it up.
Q. QQ. Cue it up!
