Another good book…

..shared by Kathy.

Heather Lende, Alaskan author wrote ‘If you lived here, I would know your name’, short stories about the community of Haines, Alaska. Her new book is ‘Take Good Care of the Garden and the Dogs’: recovery and forgiveness in small-town Alaska.

‘Take Good Care of the Garden and the Dogs’ is Heather Lende’s memoir of faith and forgiveness, seen through the lens of life in her hometown. Lende writes at length about her small Episcopal Church, and caring for her mother when she was dying of leukemia (hence the name of the book). When her mother went into surgery and was on a ventilator and couldn’t talk, her husband asked if there was anything whe wanted her daughters to know. She wrote, “take good care of the garden and the dogs.”

Peonies and Frisbees…

Dante’s enjoying his new lifestyle!

Vickie wrote:

He’s already figured out “get your Frisbee.”  If he’s outside, he’ll run back in and find it so we can play.  If we’re coming in for the evening, he’ll get it and bring it inside.

And take a look at Vickie’s peonies!

The Carnival’s Come To Town!

From Kathy:

Hi Debby,

Joe took me on a date to the carnival!  Talk about nostalgia…walking around the grounds, sweet cotton candy, carnies and the carousel! The sky was luminous and a perfect backdrop for the ferris wheel.

Did you and your sisters go to carnivals as kids?

Recycle! by Kathy

Was delighted to find the following from Kathy, especially since we loved the ‘bombing’ thread.

I just saw my first real bottle tree in South Fork, CO.  I vaguely recalled some sort of folklore connected to these garden creations, but had to do a little web research.  The following sites tell the history of the bottle tree.  I am so inspired and ready to “plant”!  Save your wine bottles for me!!  Smile!

I loved seeing that tree…located in a very isolated area of South Fork, next to an old mission church.
